Q: I just signed up for membership, now what?
A: Send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will figure out a good time to meet and give you an orientation so that you can get started! Or, drop in during open studio—we will be around!
Q: Do you do outside firings?
A: We are working on implementing outside firings for all of y’all with an at-home studio. For now, we only offer firings for members and students, but we will make an announcement via our mailing list once that changes. If you would like to be notified, please sign up for our mailing list at the bottom of our homepage.
Q: How much do firings cost?
A: Firings are on a per-piece basis. To keep it simple, we have a size chart in our studio so you can easily see how much something costs. It’s usually around $1 per piece. We ask that you pay your firing fees once a month via this link.
Q: How long of a commitment do I have to make for membership?
A: Our memberships are month to month and they are automatically charged on your card each month from the day you sign up.
Q: What is your cancellation policy for membership?
A: Please let us know via email (email@example.com) if you’d like to cancel your membership and we will not charge you for the following month. We do not retroactively cancel memberships. As an example: If you sign up on September 13th and only want to stay for one month, please let us know before October 13th if you’d like to cancel, otherwise your card will get charged and there is no refund.
Q: What is your cancellation policy for classes?
A: We offer full refunds if the class is cancelled, via email (firstname.lastname@example.org), up to 2 weeks in advance. Unfortunately, if the class is cancelled within 2 weeks of the start date, we are unable to offer a refund and it cannot be applied to a future class.
Q: What kind of clay is available at the studio?
A: We use one of Tacoma Clay Arts clay bodies. We have 5 varieties. Two whites, a red, a brown, and a speckle.
Q: Can I bring in my own clay?
A: Maybe! If you are a member, then you can bring in your own clay as long as it is cone 6 clay, and you show us when you bring it in. We just want to make sure nothing explodes in our kiln.
Q: Do I have to pay for glazes?
A: Nope! Glazes are covered by us.
Q: Can I bring my own glazes?
A: Yep! Feel free to bring in your own glazes. Just run them by us so that we can double check that they are cone 6. Please store them on your shelf.
Q: What kind of glazes are available?
A: We have about 12 different glazes available for your use. A solid white, black, and a variety of colors. We also offer 6 underglazes. If we don’t have your color of choice, you may feel free to bring in your own cone 6 glazes.
Q: What cone do you fire to? (and what does cone mean!)
A: Currently, we fire all of our pieces to Cone 6. We are in the process of installing a gas kiln, at which point we will be able to fire to Cone 10.
Q: Can I come whenever I want?
A: If you have a monthly membership, then yes! You have 24/7 access to the studio. You will get your own unique code when you join, and you’ll be able to get into the space at your leisure. If you are a student, then you can come during class, and during our open studio times.

Q: I’m visiting from out of town and want to use the studio for a day—can i?
A: Yes! You can use the studio during open studio hours. It costs $50/day.
Q: Can I bring my kids to the studio? What about my dog? What about my friend?
A: Unfortunately we don’t allow dogs or kids unless it is a kid-specific class. If you are a member, please only come yourself. If a friend would like to try out the studio, they may purchase a day pass during open studio time. We would love to meet them, so bring them in during open studio and we can give them a tour!
Q: What if I have never done ceramics before?
A: Amazing! We love beginners. We ask that you take a class (or five!) before becoming a member, where you can learn the ins and outs of the studio and of ceramics. We have amazing teachers and offer incredible beginner’s classes. Check them out here.
Q: Do I have to have experience to be a member?
A: All you need in order to be a member is the ability to function in a studio safely (which we will teach you during orientation), clean up after yourself (which we will teach you during orientation), and know ceramics well enough to operate on your own. (But don’t get us wrong—we love to answer questions when we are around!) Please note that we are unable to accommodate production potter’s in our studio.
Q: Do you have private studios?
A: Because of the size of our studio, we unfortunately aren’t able to offer private studios at this point.
Q: Who do I contact if I am confused about something?
