Beginner 2 Wheel - Monday+Wednesday Evenings in January/February at North
This is a twice-weekly, 6-week course held at The Mud Room North, designed for students who already have some solid experience working with clay. If you've taken a multi-week ceramics class (at The Mud Room or elsewhere) and feel confident in the basics—but you want help developing your skills, then this class is for you!
You’ll continue working the fundamentals like centering, throwing cylinders and bowls, trimming, and attaching handles. You’ll also have the chance to explore more advanced techniques based on your interests, such as throwing repeated forms, using underglaze, or throwing plates.
This class is not the right fit for total beginners, or someone who has only taken our one-time-wheel class. If you’re brand new to clay, we recommend starting with our Beginner 1 class to learn the basics. You should come into the class understanding the basics of how to wedge clay, throw simple forms like cylinders and bowls, attach handles and glaze your work. This class is ideal for those who want to strengthen their skills, get more comfortable on the wheel and experiment with new methods in a supportive environment. You will leave class with a collection of finished and functional pieces!
If you’ve taken Beginner 1 and are interested in starting a membership at The Mud Room, this class is not required but we find that it’s helpful to gain more confidence, ask questions, and refine your skills before working independently.
Time: Class is every Monday and Wednesday from 6-8:30 PM
Location: The Mud Room North, 1831 N Killingsworth Ave, Suite D.
Dates: January 5th-February 11th
Cost: $490 + $25 for your first bag of clay
Before signing up, we encourage you to make sure that you can make it to every class. We have found that learning pottery with a teacher present yields the best student outcomes. More good habits and fewer bad ones. Our class model has twice-weekly sessions and no open studio—we emphasize hands-on instruction to help you really learn. Our teachers are there for you.
A little about your instructor:
This course will be taught by Danielle D’Aversa
Danielle first learned ceramics while at Roger Williams University and then honed her craft through mentorships and self exploration in her home studio. As a teacher, she brings the experience of a potter who has shown her work in galleries, sold pots in markets all across New England, and has a true passion for the craft.
Danielle's teaching style follows the fundamental skills of wheel-throwing while pushing each individual towards achieving their own personal goals. She brings an open mind, friendly demeanor, enthusiasm, and an adaptable teaching style to her classes to meet students where they are. Danielle hopes to inspire creativity and foster community within her classes and believes that the most valuable pottery education comes from community studios much like The Mud Room.
