"Try It" Wheel Throwing at North

For those of you that just want to dip a toe, get a refresher, or try it out—here is your chance! This one-time class is perfect for those who are not ready to dive into a long-form class quite yet, but want to experience throwing on the wheel. You will learn the basics of wheel throwing and you will be able to take home one finished piece a few weeks after class.

After class, we will trim your pieces and glaze them in one of three colors of your choosing. Your pieces will be ready for pickup 6 weeks after the date of your class.

Location: The Mud Room North, 1831 N Killingsworth Ave, Suite D.

Time: This class meets once on either Friday or Saturday evening from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM

Ages: 16+, or 13+ with a guardian

Instructor: This class will be taught by Ryan Zweber (they/them), Lori Buff (she/they), Maddy Esper (she/her), or Jack Jones (he/him)

A little about your instructors:

Ryan (they/them):

Ryan brings over 12 years of experience in ceramics, evolving from the early days of crooked pinch pots to mastering the complexities of crystalline glaze chemistry. Passionate about sharing their knowledge, Ryan is committed to helping students discover techniques that suit their unique bodies and creative styles. Their teaching is rooted in the fundamentals and encourages curiosity, experimentation, and a deep sense of community. 

Lori Buff (she/they):

Lori has been teaching pottery since 2010 and has been working in community studios since 2008. She loves to teach students everything from the fundamentals of pottery to more advanced techniques. She loves pottery as a creative outlet and as a way to build a lasting community.

Maddy (she/her):  

Maddy is an artist and designer with 10 years of experience in ceramics. She enjoys throwing vessels and handbuilding jewelry, and sees ceramics as a grounding, process-driven practice. As an educator, she is passionate about creating fun and exploratory spaces where students can build confidence, explore ideas, and develop technical skills while forming a meaningful relationship with the medium.

Cancellation Policy

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify us at least two weeks before your class date. After this time, we cannot offer refunds or reschedule your spot for any reason, including illness. Please note there is a $15 processing fee for all refunds.

  • We understand that unexpected things can happen, but we are unable to recoup the costs of empty spots in class. If you can't attend, you’re welcome to transfer your registration to a friend or family member by sending us their name and contact info. 

  • If your teacher is unable to attend class, we will do our best to arrange for a substitute. If a substitute teacher is not available, we will reschedule the class for a later date.

  • If you have a guest coming with you, please make sure they receive the information we email to you. If you haven’t seen an email from us the week of your class, please check your spam folder (info@themudroompdx.com).

Gift purchase: If you are purchasing this class for someone else, please reach out to us with their name and email address. We need to share important studio information with them ahead of time, including details about the class, and the timeline for picking up finished pieces afterwards.

Minimum enrollment: We will run this class with a minimum of 4 students. If we need to reschedule, we will email you with as much notice as possible, and offer a variety of available dates.
